In life, we are often faced with challenges that make us question our abilities and capabilities. Whether it's starting a new job, pursuing a passion project, or simply trying something new, the initial moment of pause where we ask ourselves, " Can I do this?" is a common experience shared by many.

It is natural to feel anxious and uncertain when faced with the unknown. The fear of failure can be paralyzing, preventing us from taking risks and stepping out of our comfort zones. However, it is important to remember that failure is not the end of the road, but rather a stepping stone on the path to success.

Every conscious intention I have made in my life might beg the question, Darf ich das machen? In fact, if I don’t have a moment of pause or an instance where I’ve got to suck it up, maybe the intention, in business anyway, isn’t daring or deep enough.

Erfolg definieren

If we only measure our worth and success based on winning or losing, we set ourselves up for disappointment and anxiety. I had to learn very early as a young man that my self-worth could not be solely dependent on my field goal percentage–making or missing a field goal–or I would have been an anxious mess.

To achieve real success, we must focus on our intentions and the effort we put into achieving our goals. By shifting our mindset from a fear of failure to a focus on intention, we can break free from the limitations we place on ourselves.

Defining Your Intentions

If the only measurement is winning versus losing, we can expect anxiety and doubt to rise in us like a hot blaze. There is a remedy for abating the heat: define your intentions. Intention, by definition, is nothing more than a thing intended, an aim or plan.

Intention is a powerful force that pushes us to take action and pursue our dreams. It is the driver behind every successful endeavor, guiding us toward our goals and giving us the courage to move forward despite the obstacles in our way.

To be intentional is to be focused and selective, so that the full force of your physical and mental energy flies toward one target. Think of it as dining out. After browsing the menu, do you order one of everything? No. You make a selection. By doing so, you are aiming for satisfaction. The same method, simple as it seems, can be used to create intentional success in all aspects of your life.

Steps to Becoming Intentional

Here are the steps to becoming intentional:

  • Sinn. Being intentional includes defining a purpose.

  • Prioritäten. Establishing priorities allows you to take deliberate action toward achieving what you want.

  • Ablenkungen. Eliminate unnecessary commitments. Clear, strong choices automatically filter out distractions.

  • Harmonie. If your purpose feels out of sync with your true being and interests, make changes in achieve a sense of balance and harmony.

  • Selbstreflexion. Take time to evaluate your thoughts and feelings. Identify areas where you can improve or make changes. Seek to understand your motivations. Overcome limiting beliefs.

  • Verantwortung. Decisions have consequences. Be accountable for your outcomes, positive or negative.

  • Splitt. All of the above help you cultivate resilience in the face of challenges. Even if you have setbacks momentarily, staying true to the scope of your intentions will set you up for success later

And Smile

Look at yourself in the mirror. Try to keep a straight face. You will fail. A smile is inevitable.

Can’t smile? Fake it till you make it. Maintain a positive outlook even in difficult times. Sound a little wacky? Consider the opposite choice.

So, the next time you find yourself asking, "Can I do this?" remember that the answer lies within you. Trust in your abilities, set your intentions, and take the leap of faith.

Embrace the journey, learn from your failures, and celebrate your successes. Remember, the only limit to what you can achieve is the limit you place on yourself.
